Montenegro is unique in many ways. Nowhere else can you find, so much natural wealth, beauty, mild beaches, clear lakes, fast rivers, and gorgeous mountains in such a compact area as in Montenegro. One of the best places to visit in Montenegro is Ulcinj.


Ulcinj is a popular tourist destination in summer. In January 2010, the New York Times named ranked the south coast region of Montenegro, featuring Velika Plaza, Ada Bojana, and the Hotel Mediteran, as one of “The Top 31 Places to Go in 2010”. The most valuable resource of the Ulcinj riviera is Velika plaža which is a 12 km long stretch of sandy beach and the longest beach on the Montenegrin coast.

There are numerous cafés, discos, and bars that dot the city that are usually filled to capacity throughout the summer. These places are perfect for the tired fisherman after a long day of fishing. Have a beer eyeball some beautiful women sit back and relax.


The Ulcinj “south coast” region is well known for its active sports, recreation possibilities and hunting . Kitesurfing at Ada Bojana, all manner of water sports at Velika plaža, scuba diving among wrecks and sunken cities, mountain biking, hiking, orienteering, cycling through the olive groves at Valdanos, long walks along the pristine beaches of the south coast of Montenegro, even deep sea fishing on the Adriatic, lake fishing at Lake Skadar, and river fishing in Ada Bojana, Due to the fact that the favorable habitat for wild life, has excellent conditions of hunting tourism.

Because of its unpredictability and uncertainty till the end, coast fishing offers new challenges, where you can prove your skills and demonstrate your fighting spirit.


Tunas are the most frequently Big Game Fishing targets in the Adriatic Sea, the good thing is that you can also catch them from the shore, no need to spend loads of money on fishing charters.

These are the fish you can catch in Ulcinj: bluefish tuna, albacore tuna, little tunny, sharks, swordfish, amberjack and dorado.

The month of August is right for little tuna moving in shoals and with an average weight of 10 – 15 kg. This period offers great possibilities for a rich catch.

The end of May and beginning of June it’s shark hunting season (blue sharks and thresher sharks).

In the beginning of August it’s bluefin tuna time; average weight of 70-80 kg up to 500 kg.

The tunas follow great albacore tuna shoals with average weight of 10-15 kg, lately, with the sea temperature rising more and more dorado can be found.

That’s at the same time the best fishing season (from August to November), where the chances for a big catch is very high!

Tuna is the most popular among Big blue fish, and originating from Thunnidae family. Tunny can grow up to 4 meters and have up to 600 kilograms. Today may be encountered in all areas of the Adriatic sea, regardless of depth and distance from shore. The bluish colored body is muscular and strong, it is a  strong fighter on the rood.


Belongs to the blue fish family of Scomberomoridae. Grows up to 70 centimeters and 9 kilograms, and it is wide spread all across the Adriatic sea. Pelamids have an elongated spindle-shaped body with a long conical head and large mouth full of tiny sharp teeth. They live in shoals, and feeds on other oily fish, mostly pilchards, sprats, anchovies and small mackerel.

Little tunny

Belongs to the Thunnidae family and grows up to 1 meter and 20 kilograms. His body is spindly and elongated, slightly flattened at the sides, a conical head with a pointed losses. He points his tail fin, which is quite strong and has a crescent shape.

Red Snapper

The whitefish that belongs to the Sparidae family. One of the most popular fishes for commercial and recreational fishing. Grows up to 1 meter in length and weighing up to 16 kilograms. Living in small groups, and individually, and can be found in rocky coastal area of the Adriatic sea. The body is tight at the front especially the front, with strong jaws and very large, sharp fangs, large and powerful flippers.

Yelow tail

Belongs to the Carangidae family, and it is blue fish. Color is silvery gray and grows up to 1.5 meters and about 50 kilograms. Lives in flocks,


Belongs to the Carangidae family. Color is pale silver, and grows up to 1 meter and 15 kilograms. Not very uncommon fish, and large specimens are rare.


Belongs to the white fish family of Scorpaenidae. The color is ruddy brown and can grow up to 70cm and over 5 kg. When handling precautions should be observed because the spines sting is very painful.

Dusky serranus

Belongs to the Serranidae family. Color is dark chestnut brown, sometimes almost black. It is big fish, with specimens over 1.40 meters and 100 kilograms.

Sting ray

Belongs to the Dasyatidae family. Color is yellow-brown or leaden gray, grows up to 1.50 meters and 10 kilograms. He lives on muddy and sandy bottoms.

There is all year around fishing, 12 month open for fishing here in the sea and the River Bojana.
